FAQ - Asset Transformer Licensing System Migration

The migration becomes effective on March 31, 2026. New versions of Asset Transformer SDK and Studio released after this date will also support the Unity Licensing System.

The migration affects:

• Asset Transformer SDK (formerly Pixyz SDK)
• Asset Transformer Studio (formerly Pixyz Studio)

This migration will:

• Simplify your onboarding experience
• Reduce maintenance complexity
• Enable auto-renewal capabilities
• Provide unified seat management
• Align Asset Transformer with the Unity ecosystem
• Eliminate the need to manage multiple identity systems

All customers will receive a notice before their specific migration date. We're communicating this change in advance to ensure you have time to prepare.

Asset Transformer currently uses the legacy Pixyz licensing system, including FlexLM for floating licenses and node-locked licenses. Asset Transformer Toolkit has already been through this migration and is out of scope for this initiative.

The Unity Licensing System will replace the legacy system, supporting both:

• Named User Licenses (NUL) - user-specific licenses
• Floating Licenses - shared across your organization via Unity License Server

Yes, during the transition period (2 years), both licensing systems will be supported. Your current license will continue to work until your next renewal.

Your license will automatically migrate to the Unity Licensing System starting from your next contract renewal date after March 31, 2026.

Asset Transformer Studio will offer:

1. Asset Transformer Studio NUL (Named User License)
   • Available online and offline
   • Individual user licensing
2. Asset Transformer Studio Floating (Unity License Server)
   • Offline only (managed sales)
   • Shared floating license

Asset Transformer SDK will offer:

• Asset Transformer SDK Floating (Unity License Server)
  • Offline only (managed sales)

Online trials for Asset Transformer Studio will be discontinued. However, trial versions of both Studio and SDK will remain available through your Unity Client Partner for managed sales.

Yes, there will be a 2-year overlap period where both the legacy Pixyz licensing and Unity Licensing systems will be supported to ensure a smooth transition.

The impact depends on your license type:

Floating licenses: Will continue to work in air-gapped environments. Unity provides a floating license server archive and step-by-step instructions for creating client configuration files.

Nodelocked to Named User License (NUL) migration: Named User Licenses are not compatible with air-gapped environments. If you're currently using Asset Transformer Studio Nodelocked licenses in an air-gapped environment, we recommend upgrading to Asset Transformer Studio Floating licenses instead. If you're using an air-gapped environment and are unsure about the migration path, please reach out to your Client Partner to discuss the best licensing option for your setup.

We are working to make the new license installation process as simple and seamless as possible. Detailed guidance, including step-by-step instructions, screenshots, and troubleshooting tips, will be published on this FAQ page closer to the migration date

Yes, Unity will provide:

• License management in the Unity Dashboard
• Customer support throughout the transition
• FlexLM continuity support if Unity licensing causes issues

During the transition period, Unity maintains a legacy licensing continuity pool. If Unity licensing prevents usage, Operations can issue legacy licenses to ensure continuity.

Floating licenses will use the Unity License Server instead of FlexLM servers. This provides:

• Centralized license management
• Better integration with Unity tools
• Improved monitoring and reporting

• Auto-renewal will be enabled by default for paid subscriptions
• Administrators can toggle this setting
• 12-month commitment terms

The Unity system provides:

• Automatic fulfillment
• Seat assignment capabilities
• Unified seat management dashboard

Pricing is not affected by the new licensing system
