Who is eligible for the Unity Educator plan?

Educators at accredited degree-granting institutions and those teaching grades K–12 in the U.S., Canada, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and the U.K.

For K–12 educators outside of these regions, please see the Education Grant License.

How do I get access to the Unity Educator plan?

Sign up for Unity Educator with the links provided at the top of this page. 

  1. When prompted, create or log in to your Unity ID.
  2. Complete the SheerID verification form, providing your academic affiliation details and additional documentation, if necessary.
  3. Once you’re verified by SheerID, sign in to the Unity Educator plan here to get started.
Can I use the Unity Educator plan with my existing Unity account?

Yes. Sign up for the Unity Educator plan with your Unity ID. Once verified by SheerID, activate your new license through your Preferences in the Unity Hub using the license key you receive by email.

Can I use my Educator plan at school?

You can log in to Unity from any computer, including at school, to access resources. Note: If your school uses the Education Grant License, you may not be prompted to log in to the Unity Hub or the Editor. In this case, you can still use your Unity Educator ID to log in to the Unity  Asset Store.

What is the difference between the Unity Educator plan and the Education Grant License?

The Unity Educator plan is free and allows individual educators to teach and create with Unity at home or school on their personal devices. The Education Grant License is for institutions that need to install Unity on institutional computers, such as in classrooms or labs. For non-U.S. secondary educators who cannot currently access the Educator plan, the Education Grant License provides access to Unity.

What is the difference between the Unity Educator plan and the Unity Student plan?

The Unity Educator plan is free and allows individual educators to teach and create with Unity at home or school on their personal devices. The Unity Student plan is free and allows students to learn and create at home or school on their personal devices. 

Eligibility: Students who are at least the age at which an individual can consent to the processing of their personal data (i.e., 13 in the United States or 16 in the European Union) and who are currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution, as verified by Unity or Unity’s third-party partner SheerID.

 

Can I purchase a Unity Educator plan for my class?

The Unity Educator plan is available for free to eligible educators and cannot be purchased. Please refer to the free Education Grant License for your institution’s classroom needs.

I’m having difficulty verifying my educator status with SheerID. What should I do?

For help with SheerID verification, please contact SheerID directly.

Can I share my Unity Educator plan with colleagues?

No, but your colleagues are welcome to sign up for their own free Unity Educator plan.

When does my Unity Educator plan expire?

Once you successfully sign up for Unity Educator, you will have access to the plan for one year.

How do I renew Unity Educator?

The Unity Educator plan is valid for one year. When the plan expires, simply return to the Unity Educator page and re-verify with SheerID to renew your license.

Where can I check the status of my verification?

In most cases, verification should be instantaneous. If you have been prompted to upload additional documents, you will receive an email from SheerID when your verification is complete. If your verification takes longer than five business days, please contact SheerID directly.

How many Unity IDs can I assign to my verified account?

You can only associate one Unity ID with your Unity Educator plan. If you need to change the email address associated with your Unity ID, please follow these instructions.

What if I used two different email addresses for verification purposes?

Please check both your email inboxes for confirmation of status as well as separate instructions on how to activate your educator benefits.
