What is the difference between the Education Grant License and the Unity Educator plan?

The Education Grant License is for institutions seeking multi-seat licenses to install Unity on institutional devices, such as in a classroom or lab. The Unity Educator plan is for individual educators to use Unity to create, teach, and share their projects on personal, non-school-issued computers remotely or at school. For non-U.S. secondary educators who cannot currently access the Educator plan, the Education Grant License is an alternative.

Can I use both the Education Grant License and the Educator or Student plans?

Yes. To extend student learning beyond institution-issued computers, students can sign up for the Student plan to build projects on their personal computers. Similarly, instructors can use the Educator plan on their personal computers. Note that projects saved on the Education Grant License cannot be accessed via the Educator or Student plans.

How can I activate my Education Grant License?

Guidance on how to activate your Education Grant License can be found here.

How long is the Education Grant License valid for?

The Education Grant License is valid for one year and can be renewed annually.

What is the SheerID verification system?

SheerID is the partner Unity uses to confirm that an applicant is a verified educator or educational institution. The verification process must be completed before requesting the Unity Education Grant License.

I was verified by the SheerID system. Why did I not receive the Education Grant License?

SheerID verification is the first step. After completing this, please make sure to submit an Education Grant License request. We have seen situations where an applicant finishes the SheerID verification but doesn’t complete their request. In order to be considered for the license, please complete all the aforementioned steps.

Why can't I find my institution in the SheerID verification form?

When an educational institution doesn’t exist in the SheerID database, it can take up to a few days for verification. In these cases, SheerID requests documentation from the applicant to ensure the authenticity of their affiliation with an education institution.

Where can I check the status of my verification?

If you have been prompted to upload additional documents, you will receive an email from SheerID when your verification is complete. If your verification takes longer than five business days, please contact SheerID directly at customerservice@sheerid.com.

How many Unity IDs can I assign to my verified account?

Only one Unity ID can be associated with the Education Grant License. If you need to change the email address associated with your Unity ID, please follow these instructions.

Can I access Unity Cloud with my Education Grant License?

No, Unity Cloud access is limited to Student Plan, Educator Plan users as well as Unity Personal, Pro, and Enterprise users. Education Grant License users will have access to Unity Cloud in 2024.
