Eligibility
This plan is available for students who are 16 years and older and are enrolled in an accredited educational institution. Students must provide consent to the collection and processing of their personal information when applying for the license.
A student needs to be currently enrolled in educational classes that earn credit towards a diploma, degree, or professional license.
Access and Verification
- Apply for the Student plan on this page: Unity Student Plan
- Choose either "Post-Secondary" or "Secondary" based on your academic status.
- Create a new Unity ID or log in with your existing one.
- Complete the SheerID verification form by providing your academic details and any necessary documentation.
- After SheerID verifies your eligibility, you will receive instructions to redeem your Student plan by email. Once you redeem your plan, you will find instructions on how to download the Unity Hub and the Unity Editor.
- Check your email for the Student license key and plan benefits.
- Activate your Student license in the Unity Hub using the received license key. Instructions for activation can be found in this support article.

You can only associate one Unity ID with your Unity Student plan. For changing emails associated with your Unity ID, follow these instructions.
The Unity Student plan is free and intended for individual students to use on their personal computers. For classroom and lab needs, your institution can apply for the free Education Grant license instead. This way, students can utilize the Student Plan on their personal devices, while the Education Grant License can be used for classroom and lab computers.
Usage
Yes! You can sign up using your existing Unity ID and personal email. You don’t need a school email to sign up. After SheerID verification, activate your new license via Preferences in the Unity Hub with the emailed license key. Refer to this support article for more details.
Yes! You can log in to Unity from any computer, including at school. Projects created with a Student plan can only be accessed with your Student plan account, not with other accounts like PE (Personal) or EGL (Education Grant License).
No, but your friends and classmates can sign up for their own free Unity Student plan if they are part of an educational institution.
The Unity Student plan is valid for one year. You may renew for another year upon expiration. Students can keep renewing while actively enrolled in an educational institution.
