Who is eligible for the Unity Student plan?

This plan is available for students 16 and older enrolled in an accredited educational institution and who can provide consent to the collection and processing of their personal information.

How do I access the Unity Student plan?

Sign up for the plan with the links provided at the top of this page. 

  1. When prompted, create, or log in to, your Unity ID.
  2. Complete the SheerID verification form, providing details of your academic affiliation and additional documentation, if necessary.

Once you’re verified by SheerID, sign in to the Unity Student plan to get started.

Can I use the Unity Student plan with my existing Unity account?

Yes. Sign up for the Unity Student plan with your Unity ID. Once verified by SheerID, activate your new license through your Preferences in the Unity Hub using the license key you will receive by email.

Can I use my Unity Student plan at school?

You can log in to Unity from any computer, including at school, to access resources. Note: If your school uses the Education Grant License, you may not be prompted to log in to the Unity Hub or the Editor. In this case, you can still use your Unity Student ID to log in to the Asset Store.

What is the difference between the Unity Student plan and the Education Grant License?

The Unity Student plan is for individual students to create, learn, and share their Unity projects at home, school or elsewhere. The Education Grant License is for institutions that need to install Unity on institutional devices, such as in the classroom or a lab.

What is the difference between the Unity Educator plan and the Unity Student plan?

The Unity Educator plan is for individual educators to create, teach, and share their Unity projects at home, school or elsewhere. The Unity Student plan is for students to create projects at home or school or on personal devices. Students 16 years and older who are enrolled in an accredited educational institution and can provide consent to the collection and processing of their personal information as verified by Unity or a Unity partner are eligible to use the Unity Student plan.

Can I purchase a Unity Student plan for my class?

The Unity Student plan is available for free to individual students and cannot be purchased. Please refer to the free Education Grant License for your institution’s classroom needs.

I’m having difficulty verifying my student status with SheerID. What should I do?

For help with SheerID verification, please contact SheerID directly.

Can I share my Unity Student plan with friends?

Your friends and classmates are welcome to sign up for their own free Unity Student plan. The Unity Student plan also comes with five seats of Unity Teams Advanced that allow you to share a project with collaborators.

When does my Unity Student plan expire?

Once you successfully sign up for the Unity Student plan, you will have access to the plan for one year.

How do I renew the Unity Student plan?

The Unity Student plan is valid for one year. When the plan expires, simply return to the Unity Student page and re-verify with SheerID to renew your license.

Where can I check the status of my verification?

In most cases, verification should be instantaneous. If you have been prompted to upload additional documents, you will receive an email from SheerID when your verification is complete. If your verification takes longer than five business days, please contact SheerID directly.

How many Unity IDs can I assign to my verified account?

You can only associate one Unity ID with your Unity Student plan. If you need to change the email address associated with your Unity ID, please follow these instructions.

How do I access Unity Teams Advanced after I sign up for the Unity Student plan?

Follow these steps to learn how to set up and access your Unity Teams Advanced benefits.

Did you use two different email addresses for verification purposes?

If so, please check both your email inboxes for confirmation of status as well as separate instructions on how to activate your benefits.

I verified my status as a student with GitHub. What should I do next?

If you previously received Unity Student plan benefits by verifying as a member of the GitHub Student Developer pack, your benefits will continue to be active until your renewal date.

I am below the age of 16 and have previously verified for the Unity Student plan. How do I get access to the Unity Student plan with the new SheerID verification?

I verified my status with GitHub but I am not able to activate my Unity Student plan. How do I activate it?

Please email support@unity3d.com along with a screenshot of your proof of authorization from GitHub.

What happens to my GitHub Student Developer pack membership?

You will still continue to have access to all pack offers that remain in the pack. There is no expiration date, unless a pack partner decides to terminate or modify their offer.
