Unity Technologies Announces Unite 11 Keynote, Sponsors and Sessions

Aug 22, 2011

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Aug 22, 2011 - Unity Technologies, provider of the Unity development platform for awesome games and interactive 3D on the web, iOS, Android, consoles and beyond, today announced that David Brevik, the President and COO of Gazillion Entertainment and Co-Creator and Lead Programmer of Diablo and Diablo II, will keynote at Unite 11.

Unite 11 is Unity Technologies' fifth annual developer conference taking place September 28 - 30, 2011 at the Masonic Center in San Francisco. The conference is a time for developers, publishers, enthusiasts and others interested in Unity to come together to learn more about the market-leading platform and how to get the most out of it. This year's sponsors include AikenLabs, Allegorithmic, design3, Electrotank, Exit Games, Intel, Luxology, Massive Black, Mixamo, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, SoftKinetic and Sony Ericsson.

In his keynote titled To Hell and Back Again: How the Video Game Industry Has Changed Since Diablo, Brevik will discuss what he has seen as the most pivotal shifts in gaming over the past decade, the growth of social games, free-to-play business models, digital distribution and where the industry is headed.

"I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to share my thoughts on the past and future of the video game industry," said Brevik. "Unity Technologies shares Gazillion Entertainment's belief that high quality games should also be highly accessible, on any device, anywhere."

In addition to Brevik's keynote, Unite 11 will feature:

  • 30+ information-packed sessions from Unity experts and employees
  • Advanced technical sessions on Allegorithmic Substance integration, console development, Beast lightmapping, Artificial intelligence (AI), editor scripting and mobile platform optimizations
  • The popular "Road Map and Wish List" session for all Unity developers
  • A serious games showcase
  • Project postmortems on hit iOS and Facebook games
  • Hands-on lab time with Unity employees
  • Updates on Unity Technologies' Asset Store digital content marketplace and Union game distribution service -- launched at Unite 10
  • Annual Unity Awards featuring the best content created with Unity
  • Training for Unity educators
  • Awesome parties for all attendees -- Electronic Musician Nosaj Thing will be kicking off the Unite party!

"This is going to be our biggest and best Unite yet," said Nicholas Francis, Unity Technologies Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer. "Unite has a special place in my heart -- we get to meet our users and show them what we've been working on -- and also get their first-hand feedback on where they think Unity should go."

Unity Technologies is hosting a Flash Day on September 27, the day before Unite 11 kicks off to give Flash users a crash course in Unity development.
