Unity Boston Formed After Hiring Darkwind Media’s Platform Technology Group

May 15, 2013

San Francisco – May 15, 2013

Unity Technologies, provider of the Unity multi-platform engine and development tools, today announced that the platform technology specialist group at Darkwind Media, a highly technical development studio specializing in porting games and engines to a multitude of platforms, has joined Unity Technologies as Unity Boston. The new office has the primary purpose of leading development on deployment tools for a multitude of platforms, both currently in development and planned, at Unity Technologies.

The addition of Darkwind Media’s former platform team brings deeply experienced engineers into the fold of the Unity technology development team. The Boston-based studio had been working for over three years to assist with building new platform deployment tools for the Unity game engine and editor. Darkwind had also facilitated the porting of several Unity-authored games to a variety of platforms.

“Hiring the platform experts from Darkwind Media to be in-house developers makes a lot of sense for the continued development of Unity,” said David Helgason, CEO, Unity Technologies. “We’ve been working with this team for years and watched them develop an exceptional understanding of Unity. This is an experienced and talented team and we are incredibly excited to see them come on board as our new Boston office.”

Unity has utilized the team that now composes Unity Boston for a variety of projects, most heavily for the Union business group, including porting to BlackBerry, Smart TVs and set-top boxes such as Roku 2. The team will now put their focus on perfecting the new add-ons for BlackBerry and other upcoming technological additions to Unity.

The office, headed by Scott Flynn, has begun the search for more team members in both platform development and QA positions. If you’re a developer in the Boston area and are interested in joining one of the most exciting development technology companies in the world, please visit unity.com/careers.
