What is MR?

Mixed Reality

Mixed Reality (MR) means a hybrid experience where digital and physical elements coexist and interact in real-time, placing it on a spectrum between pure virtual reality and augmented reality to create environments where virtual objects are anchored to and interact with physical spaces.

How does MR work?

This technology represents a sophisticated blending of real and virtual worlds where physical and digital objects coexist and interact within the same space and time frame.

Unlike augmented reality, which simply overlays digital content on the real world, or virtual reality, which replaces the physical environment entirely, mixed reality creates intelligent integration where virtual elements can be occluded by physical objects, respond to real-world lighting conditions, and interact with actual environments through spatial mapping. MR development requires specialized skills including environmental understanding, spatial anchoring, and context-aware content design that responds appropriately to physical surroundings.

How is MR used?

The technology finds applications across diverse industries including architecture, manufacturing, healthcare, and education, where the ability to visualize and manipulate digital content in physical contexts provides unique advantages for training, visualization, and remote collaboration. As hardware capabilities advance and development tools mature, mixed reality continues to expand its potential for creating hybrid experiences that leverage the strengths of both physical and digital domains.
