Frequently asked questions

Affiliate Program Overview

What is the Affiliate Program?

If you are a content creator, blogger, social media user, or influencer, the Unity Affiliate Program helps you enhance your site with Unity content and earn commissions on referring sales.

What is Partnerize?

Partnerize is a third-party platform the Unity Affiliate Program uses to manage its relationships with Affiliates. You can access reports, links, and more through this platform.

Can I change the Affiliate Terms and Conditions?

No, we do not make custom agreements or Terms and Conditions for individual affiliates. You can review our Terms and Conditions once you have been accepted into the program. Please note that we take our intellectual property and brand seriously, and affiliates must also adhere to our branding and trademark guidelines

Additionally, affiliates are required to comply with the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Endorsement Guides and Regulations. Any and all instances where affiliate links for Unity are posted as an endorsement or assessment of our products must prominently disclose the fact that you may receive compensation for referring customers to Unity. This disclosure statement should be clear and concise, and follow the guidelines available on the FTC Endorsements website.

Do I need to use my Unity ID as my username?

When you apply to become an Affiliate, you can create a username and password for your Affiliate account. Since the Affiliate Program is hosted on a third-party platform, your username and password are not associated with your Unity ID.

Why was my application rejected?

Reasons for a rejected application may include, but are not limited to, a website or content that:

  • Infringes Unity's or third-party trademark rights.
  • Includes a Unity trademark in your domain name. This includes, but is not limited to, the use of the words “Unity” and “Asset” in your domain.
  • Contains sexually explicit material.
  • Contains hate, violence, or offensive content.
  • Promotes discrimination.
  • Promotes illegal activities or otherwise violates any applicable laws.
  • Appropriates text or images from Unity's websites or stores.
  • Fails to clearly state an online privacy policy to visitors.
  • Uses misleading or fraudulent means to prompt clicks.
  • Includes other inappropriate elements. What is deemed inappropriate is at Unity's sole discretion.
Can I participate if I'm an Asset Store Publisher?

Yes. In fact, we encourage it! We can't wait to see what kind of content our community creates with this program. However, please note that posting affiliate links within your Publisher Profile, Asset Descriptions, and list pages is prohibited.

What products are eligible for commission?

Unity Pro subscriptions and all products sold on the Asset Store are commissionable. On occasion, additional products may be made commissionable for a short time. We will notify you in advance of these promotional opportunities via email.

What is the tracking window?

When a visitor clicks on one of your affiliate links, the tracking window tracks their activity. The tracking window will track purchase activity for 7 days for products in the Asset Store. The tracking window will track purchase activity for 30 days for products in the Unity Store.

Getting Started

How does the Unity Affiliate Program work?

After you apply and are accepted as an Affiliate, you will receive access to unique affiliate creative, widgets, text links, and direct links that you may place on your website or social media page. When your visitors click through to the Unity website via these links, that visitor is tracked with a cookie. Depending on what you are linking to, that cookie tracks the user for 7 days (Asset Store products) or 30 days (Unity Store subscriptions). When a visitor places an order, the order is associated with your website as the referring source and your affiliate account is credited a commission for the order. The more visitors you refer, and the more of those visitors who purchase products from Unity, the more you get paid.

I have many websites. Can I use my Affiliate account for all of them?

Yes. As long as your sites comply with the program terms, we do not restrict how many sites are tied to your Affiliate account. Please ensure your sites are added to your account in the Partnerize platform. Please note that posting Affiliate links on the Unity Asset Store and Unity-controlled social media is prohibited.

How much does it cost to join?

The program is free to join.

How do I sign up?

Simply fill out the form with your contact information and the website URL where you plan to promote Unity. We will review your application within 5 business days, and we notify you by email once we review your application.

How do I use the Partnerize dashboard?

To understand how to use the Partnerize Dashboard, please review Partnerize’s comprehensive knowledge base.

Can I participate if I'm not a U.S. citizen?

Yes. One of our main goals is to support the international community to engage with Unity.

Linking

How do I create links?

It’s easy to create links to specific products that are automatically associated with your Affiliate account by using our Linkmaker.

With Linkmaker, enter your Affiliate ID on the page, then find the Asset Store product you wish to link to and select the "Create Link" button. This will give you the option to create a large or small widget, a text link, static banner, or direct link to the product.

You may link to both paid and free assets in this manner.

*Improperly tagged links will not track to your Affiliate account. You are responsible for ensuring your links are properly coded. If you use the Linkmaker on Unity’s website, you must input your Affiliate ID manually. Contact us for assistance if you have difficulty locating your Affiliate ID.

What is the “aid” parameter?

The “aid” (Affiliate ID) or “camref” (campaign reference) parameter is the unique parameter that needs to be appended to all of your Affiliate links. Without this parameter, we will not be able to identify your Affiliate account and any referring sales.

If you wish to manually create links, please see the link syntax examples below:

https://assetstore.unity.com?aid=XXXXXX

https://prf.hn/click/camref:XXXXXX/destination:https://store.unity.com/…

*camref: Your Affiliate ID is labeled as “camref” in the dashboard and can be located under Campaign Tracking: http://prf.hn/click/camref:XXXXXX where XXXXXX is your unique camref that needs to be appended to all Affiliate links as shown in the examples above.

*Unity is not responsible for improperly coded Affiliate links

Can I see traffic from a specific source?

The "pubref" parameter is an optional subtracking parameter that can be used to optimize your Affiliate efforts. The pubref parameter will track separate campaigns in your reporting. You can customize this reference according to your own needs. The pubref is limited to 100 alphanumeric characters, as shown in these examples:

https://assetstore.unity.com?aid=XXXXXX&pubref=facebook https://assetstore.unity.com?aid=XXXXXX&pubref=blog_post

https://prf.hn/click/camref:XXXXXX/pubref:customreference/destination:h…

*Please note that “aid” (Affiliate ID) is required on all links to ensure Affiliate sales are tracked. Links with only “pubref” will not track. See “What is the ‘aid’ parameter?” above for instructions on how to obtain your “aid.”

**Only alphanumeric characters and underscores "_" are permitted.
