A role defines the specific permissions a user is allowed to have. For these permissions to be applied, the role must be assigned to a user who has been granted an entitlement—the formal permission to use a Unity product.
An entitlement is granted when an organization assigns a subscription seat from its plan (such as Unity Pro, Unity Enterprise, or Industry) to a user.
Therefore, only a user with an active seat holds the necessary entitlement to be assigned a role and for its permissions to take effect.
Together, the Role and the Seat give the user full access to Unity Asset Manager. This guide will walk you through the steps needed to set it up.
If you’re an owner or a manager for your organization, here’s a two-step process to give your team members full access.
First, make sure you’ve selected the correct organization from the dropdown in the top-right corner in the Unity Dashboard.

In the Unity Dashboard, go to Administration and select Members.

Click on Invite organization members and write the email addresses of the users or team members you want to add. It’s important to add users to the organization first since a project guest can’t get license seat access.
In the interface, set their general User type, such as User. Check out the User types, roles, and permissions on the Unity Cloud documentation to learn about all kinds of roles and permissions available.

Once added, assign a specific user role.

While a general organization role can be set, for more granular Asset Manager control go to Project > Members and set a specific role directly on user-level. For projects that have Visibility set to ‘Private’ in their settings, this is a required step, since general organization members with a User role won’t see the project.

These project roles allow specific resource access.
The next step is to provision the essential license seat that unlocks full access. Without it, the user’s assigned role will default to Viewer functionality. From the Administration section click the Organizations link to go to Unity ID > Organizations.

From the Unity ID, navigate to Subscriptions & Services.

Select the correct subscription, click on Manage seats, and then find the user you want to assign the seat to. However, if you need to increase the number of seats on your subscription, make sure to follow the steps outlined in this Unity Support article. Or, if you’ve purchased a subscription through a Client Partner, make sure to reach out to them.

Make sure to write the email address in the Find member field. If there are no available seats in your organization you must first redeem a product code to add a new license before you can assign it to a member.

That’s it! With the correct permissions set, and a seat assigned, your team member is ready to go.
