Unity Technologies Launches 3rd Party Marketplace 'Unity Asset Store'

Nov 10, 2010

Digital Store for Developers to Share and Trade Assets

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - November 10, 2010 - Unity Technologies, provider of the Unity development platform for interactive 3D content on the web, mobile devices and console, today announced the opening of the Unity Asset Store in the keynote at Unite 2010, the company's fourth annual developer conference.

The Unity Asset Store is a marketplace for developers, inside the Unity platform, to share and trade assets among each other and will act as a hub for developers to shop for independently created assets for use in a wide variety of games and other interactive 3D projects.

"Even after we made the Unity tools as simple as we've made them, game development is inherently hard," said David Helgason, CEO of Unity Technologies. "But by launching the Unity Asset Store, we're giving developers a way to easily combine their work with that of others, making game development easier than ever before."

The Unity Asset Store launched today with a wide variety of quality assets, ranging from free tutorials and open-source libraries, individual assets for just a few dollars, to art packs, advanced script libraries and entire new workflows that augment Unity itself. Being built-in, the Unity Asset Store is simply accessed from within Unity -- putting assets at developers' fingertips when they most need it.

"Because Unity is so widely used inside and outside of the game industry, it is becoming a standard around which developers collaborate, learn, recruit and share and trade assets," Helgason continued. "And not least, individual developers can now monetize their skills in an entirely new way!"
