Unity Takes Gold Sponsorship at IGF

Oct 13, 2009

All finalists to receive a copy of Unity Pro in addition to IGF cash prizes.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - October 13, 2009

Unity Technologies, the provider of the revolutionary Unity development platform for PC, Mac, Wii and iPhone is proud to announce it is the Gold Sponsor of the lauded Independent Games Festival (IGF) at the annual Game Developers Conference (GDC), to be held in San Francisco in March 2010.

Now in its 12th year, the IGF has become the launchpad for a host of popular independent studios, with games like World of Goo, Gish, Braid, Castle Crashers and Everyday Shooter receiving worldwide attention and commercial success after winning these prestigious awards.

As part of its Gold sponsorship, Unity is supporting all of the finalists by giving them a copy of the Unity Pro package (worth $1,500) to every winning team member -- as well as one copy to every finalist team.

Nicholas Francis, CCO and co-founder of Unity said, “We’re honored to be sponsoring the IGF – Unity started out as an indie game studio, so in a way this feels like coming home. We can’t wait to get some of these talented developers into our fold, so we’d like to give away a lot of Unity Pro copies. In short, we’re proud to sign on as sponsors and show our support for the IGF.”

The 2010 Independent Games Festival has its Main Competition open for submissions until November 1st, with the Student Competition taking entries until November 15th. Finalists will be announced in January 2010, with the IGF Pavilion showing all the games on the GDC show floor from March 11th-13th, 2010, and the major IGF Awards ceremony taking place on the night of March 11th.

We’re very pleased to have Unity on board as a Gold Sponsor for this year’s Independent Games Festival”, said Simon Carless, Chairman of the IGF. “We very much appreciate their support for the independent game community as the sector continues to grow and flourish.”

Unity is rapidly growing in popularity with talented developers of all sizes, from the small teams like the Mechtley Brothers and Mika Mobile (creators of iPhone hits Touch KO and Zombieville USA respectively); new studios like The Amazing Society and giants like Cartoon Networks and Electronic Arts, who have adopted the engine for their upcoming browser based Tiger Woods PGA Tour title.

About the IGF

Think Services Game Group (producers of Game Developer magazine, Gamasutra.com, and the Game Developers Conference®) established the Independent Games Festival in 1998 to encourage innovation in game development and to recognize the best independent game developers. Just as the Sundance Film Festival benefits the independent film community, the IGF creates a similar event for independent game developers in addition to the student population of game developers. https://www.igf.com/
