The opportunity
We are seeking a skilled Middleware Engineer with expertise in Ceph, OpenStack, and Linux Systems Administration to join our Infrastructure Team. In this role, you will operate, improve, and scale critical infrastructure services, bringing a balanced and expert focus across storage, cloud infrastructure, and operating systems.
This position is ideally suited for a technically deep engineer who thrives working across multiple infrastructure domains — contributing both strategically and hands-on. You will play a key role in maintaining resilient platforms, improving operational efficiency through automation, and driving continuous gains in reliability for our internal teams.
We are looking for a collaborative engineer with a proactive mindset who values documentation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement — someone who elevates the team around them as much as the infrastructure they manage.
What you'll be doing
- Support and maintain OpenStack infrastructure, ensuring stable integration with storage services while continuously contributing to the ongoing operation, improvement, and scalability of the platform.
- Administer and optimise Ceph storage clusters, overseeing cluster health, capacity planning, performance tuning, reliability, and all day-to-day operational responsibilities across the storage environment.
- Perform comprehensive Linux systems administration across infrastructure environments, including provisioning, configuration management, patching, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and full lifecycle management.
- Automate operational workflows using scripting languages and infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible to drive consistency, scalability, and efficiency across Ceph, OpenStack, and Linux platforms.
- Troubleshoot complex, cross-platform infrastructure issues spanning storage, compute, networking, and operating systems — conducting thorough root-cause analysis and implementing long-term, sustainable improvements.
What we're looking for
- Solid experience working with OpenStack in an operational or engineering capacity, with a strong understanding of its integration with underlying storage and networking layers.
- Demonstrated expertise in Ceph storage administration, including cluster operations, configuration, health monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance tuning in production environments.
- Strong Linux systems administration skills, with proven experience managing and maintaining production Linux environments at scale.
- Hands-on experience with automation, scripting, and infrastructure-as-code tooling for provisioning, configuration management, and operational workflow optimisation.
- Strong knowledge of Linux and host networking, with the ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve effectively across distributed systems and complex infrastructure services.
You might also have
- Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, or the ELK Stack.
- Familiarity with network infrastructure configuration, including switches and routers.
- Knowledge of security best practices, including hardening, patching, and compliance considerations in enterprise infrastructure environments.
- Experience with disaster recovery, backup strategies, and business continuity planning.
- Exposure to public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
