The opportunity
Unity is investing in advanced 2D capabilities to better serve creators globally, focusing on high-performance world building, asset management, graphics, and animation workflows for demanding 2D scenarios. We’re seeking a senior engineer to lead the design and delivery of high-quality 2D features, strengthen integrations with external tools, and elevate performance across platforms and devices. In this role, you’ll own core systems that directly impact adoption, performance, and workflow quality, collaborating closely with internal teams and market-facing partners.
What you'll be doing
- Design and develop 2D workflows in Unity editor for world building, asset management, animation, or graphics
- Ensure features are performant.
- Contribute to define engineering standards, including benchmarks, testing, documentation, and reliability practices to maintain quality and performance bars for 2D features.
What we're looking for
- Japanese language skills: Ability to collaborate with Japanese partners and creators, gather feedback, and represent the team effectively.
- Experience working in games. Preferably in tech/tools/engines.
- Experience developing authoring workflows and runtime features for games. Preferably in tech/tools/engine development.
You might also have
- GPU programming and shaders: experience with HLSL/GLSL/Metal; performance minded; familiarity with compute shaders for parallelizable workloads.
- Experience in building authoring workflows in Unity Editor or other development environments
- Served as technical lead in a development team.
- Community outreach: comfortable engaging users, for example in forums, to understand needs and share best practices.
