How Imperia Online’s Siege: WWII increased revenue and cut CPI with Unity LevelPlay and ironSource Ads

Based in Bulgaria, Imperia Online is a part of Stillfront, a global games company with over 30 titles in its portfolio. Imperia Online is best known for their strategy games, including their mobile game Siege: WWII.

In an increasingly competitive market, the studio looked for new ways to scale and monetize this title effectively. To achieve this, they implemented Unity’s comprehensive suite of tools - including ironSource Ads for user acquisition (UA) and LevelPlay for monetization. With the goal of growing its player base while also optimizing monetization, Imperia Online faced the challenge of maximizing ad revenue without disrupting the gameplay experience, and acquiring high-quality users effectively. They turned to the team at Unity to provide the solution needed to tackle these objectives. 

The solution:

To make the most of the ironSource Ads network’s UA capabilities for Siege: WWII, Imperia Online deployed highly targeted campaigns aimed at Australia, Canada, the UK, Belgium, the UAE, Albania, and the USA, using the network’s advanced segmentation. This included targeting specific devices and operating systems within these regions to ensure precise audience optimization and engagement.

In order to maximize their revenue potential, Imperia Online leveraged Unity LevelPlay in conjunction with Stillfront’s monetization hub, Candywriter, to streamline its ad network management through comprehensive oversight capabilities, enabling the optimization of the entire monetization process. This approach elevated eCPM KPIs, leading to a notable revenue uplift. In addition, varied ad formats, including opt-in rewarded videos, ensured that monetization efforts augmented the gameplay rather than detracting from it.

Unity’s dedicated team of experts worked closely with the Imperia Online team, providing strategic insights and technical support. This ongoing partnership enabled operational efficiency and the ability to adapt swiftly to evolving market dynamics, such as shifts in player behaviors, emerging trends in advertising, and updates to mobile operating systems.

The results:

The integration of Unity’s solutions delivered impressive, quantifiable outcomes for Siege: WWII. Throughout the campaign period from April to December 2024, the strategic adjustments and optimizations in UA led to greater cost efficiency.

By the end of December, CPI had decreased 45%. Since then, Siege: WWII’s revenue has also increased by 14% with the implementation of Unity LevelPlay.
