Unity works with formats from the digital content creation (DCC) industry, including Blender, Maya, and 3ds Max. Demo: An Autodesk Maya user makes changes to their 3D models, saves them as FBX, and sends them directly to Unity. The models are immediately updated in the Unity project.

Asset Transformer Toolkit (included with Unity Industry) turns precise engineering data from CAD and BIM formats into lightweight meshes, which is also useful for technical artists' workflows. Demo: Once you've installed the Asset Transformer Toolkit, you can directly import CAD parts or assemblies, adjust the import settings and look of your model, and start using them in your 3D project.

Unity Asset Manager

Unity Industry includes Unity Cloud, giving you access to Unity Asset Manager – an easy-to-use digital asset management (DAM) platform for your assets across multiple projects. Demo: A user visits the Unity Asset Manager at cloud.unity.com. They add multiple assets by dragging and dropping CAD files from their PC into their browser – wait until upload is complete – then explore their files in the browser.

Unity Asset Manager

With the Unity Asset Manager available within the Unity Editor, it acts as a single source of truth for your Unity projects. You can access your assets in the Unity Asset Manager, from your DCC tools, or even at runtime. Demo: The user selects the asset they’d like to import from the Unity Asset Manager, then drags and drops the asset into their scene.

DevOps Version Control

Version control is critical for small and large teams working on the same project. You can go backwards and forwards in time in your project, rolling back changes, or selectively merging different versions. Demo: The user makes modifications in their project, checks in those changes, and adds a comment explaining what has changed.

With Unity, you manage your imported assets using a time-saving feature called “prefabs.” Prefabs allow you to group together different assets and easily modify the properties of all grouped objects at once. Demo: A user creates a new prefab from four Barrel models – then clones copies of them by dragging and dropping them into a scene. Any changes made to the original prefab will be reflected in all the clones.

Unity has a wide range of tools to create realistic environments – giving you full control over light and shadows, raytracing, subsurface scattering, and more. Many of these tools are available through drop-down menus and don’t require programming. Demo: The user created a light, enabled soft shadows using a drop-down Inspector menu, then rotates the light through the scene.

Unity has many tools to simulate real-world physics for your projects – allowing you to modify the friction of a rainy road as cars drive along it, the collisions of a tractor lifting soil, or the jostling of items across a conveyor belt. You can access many of these physics interactions from the menus – and program detailed behaviors using C# scripting. Demo: A user drags a Pallet prefab into their scene and applies physics components (Rigidbody for physics).

In Unity, create any type of interaction and behavior with scripting. Add user interaction – like walking the floor, opening panels, and controlling machines – as well as automated elements of your project. Move faster with the in-editor AI assistant (in beta) taking a first draft of your scripting, grounded in your live project context so it works with your actual scenes and assets. And every edit is yours to approve.

Unity Industry can deploy your experiences to any platform – using the same project. You can reach your customers and stakeholders on desktop, mobile, headset, or web – without needing to fork projects. Unity Industry also includes a build license that helps scale your on-premises build capacity. A developer can use the Build Settings window to deploy a desktop application in just two clicks.

Nothing has more reach than a 3D experience hosted on the web – Unity supports WebGL technology. A user can select the WebGL deployment target in their build settings, and build their experience to a folder. That experience is then embedded into a customer-facing website.

Unity is uniquely well suited for VR and AR headsets, and has deep partnerships with every XR and spatial-computing headset manufacturer. A user can test their XR application on their VR headset, without having to leave the Unity Editor.
