Introducing Unity 6

With Unity 6, we’re changing how we release the Unity Engine so that we can keep improving the Engine’s performance and stability, while making it easier and less disruptive for you to upgrade.

The Unity 6 release includes major improvements in functionality and performance, and this will be followed by regular Updates so you won’t have to wait for major annual releases to receive important bug fixes, platform support, and new features.

Unity 6

Unity 6

Unity 6 is the most stable version of the Unity Engine to date, with an additional six months of testing before release so you can create your next project with confidence. Unity 6 includes all the features and functionality that was originally shipped in Unity 2023.1, Unity 2023.2, and the Unity 6 Preview.

Enhanced stability

Unity 6 comes with a commitment to deliver only patches and Updates that build on the stability of the initial release, tested in production with real games.

Easier upgrades

Updates will allow you to access features faster, with less risk of breaking changes since each update will go through rigorous regression testing, similar to a major release.

Extended support

We’re committed to investing in and supporting Unity 6 over the long term. Unity 6 will be supported for longer than previous LTS releases – at least two years after the arrival of the next major release, for a total of at least four years.

Unity 6 Update releases

Update releases

After the initial release, we plan to ship Updates more regularly than our previous LTS release model. Each Update release uses the 6.X nomenclature and comes with additive and opt-in features, new platform support, and bug fixes to ensure maximum stability and easier upgrades.

The first, Unity 6.1 Update, is due for release in April 2025.

Update functionality is opt-in

To ensure you have the best experience of building with Unity 6, any functionality that’s included in an Update release will be additive in nature. This includes additions to our extensive platform support to stay in sync with the industry but also may include new features that you can choose to implement in your project.

Update support guaranteed

Patches are added to the most recent Unity 6 version every 1–4 weeks. Unity 6 will receive these patches until Unity 6.1 Update is available, after which time patches will ship to 6.1 Update.

Update stability by default

All Update releases receive at least two months of product and stabilization testing before shipping. There will also be a public beta period for each Update to get your feedback and ensure we’re delivering what you need to be successful.
